Medical Examiner confirms person found in submerged car is Flagler County woman reported missing

FLAGLER COUNTY, Fla. — Flagler County deputies say the Medical Examiner’s Office has confirmed that the driver found in a car that was submerged in a pond there was 49-year-old Erica Bergeron.

Bergeron’s family reported her missing last Thursday after she didn’t show up to meet with her son the previous Sunday. They said she was last seen Thursday leaving the Palm Coast Lanes Bowling Alley on Old Kings Road.

Flagler County deputies said a crew noticed Friday morning that a tree was knocked down near the pond on Creek Course Drive near Palm Harbor Parkway in Palm Coast, but at that point, Bergeron hadn’t been reported missing.

Investigators noticed tire tracks heading into the pond and began their search Monday.

The Flagler County Sheriff’s Office Dive Team later recovered a gray passenger car from the pond. A report from the Florida Highway Patrol identified the person found inside as a 49-year-old woman from Jacksonville.

The FHP report noted that the car appeared to have struck a tree before veering off the roadway and into the pond.

The Medical Examiner confirmed Tuesday the woman found in the car was Bergeron.

According to FHP, investigators are still trying to determine the exact date and time of the crash.
