OCALA, Fla. — A 9-year-old boy accused of stabbing his 5-year-old sister several times made another court appearance Wednesday.
Officials said the boy stabbed her at their apartment near Silver Springs Boulevard on Jan. 25 because he thought about killing her and couldn’t get the thought out of his head.
The children’s mother told detectives she left the apartment briefly to pick up the mail and get some candy from a neighbor when the stabbing occurred.
His Wednesday hearing only lasted four minutes, and the boy was obscured from cameras by two adults.
Former judge Belvin Perry believes prosecutors will try the boy as a juvenile, not and adult.
The judge issued a continuance in the case because she’s awaiting the child’s competency evaluation results. The 9-year-old’s psychological and psychiatric evaluations were already completed.
Hospital officials said the 5-year-old girl is expected to recover from her injuries.
The hearing will continue Feb. 12.
