Man shot outside Daytona Beach motel, deputies say

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — A man is in the hospital after being shot in the abdomen outside a Motel 6 in Daytona Beach, the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office said.

Deputies responded to the motel in the 2000 block of West International Speedway Boulevard around 4:26 a.m.

A witness told deputies the shooting happened after a few drivers fought over one cutting another off.

The 33-year-old man who was shot was a passenger in a car cut off by a pair of vehicles while driving on International Speedway Boulevard near Tomoka Farms Road.

All involved pulled into the Motel 6 parking lot where they argued and the man was shot, deputies said.

A friend of the victim said the shooter was part of a group of several men who fled immediately after the shooting.

Witnesses indicated the group of men fled in a newer model silver car, possibly a Mazda with Oregon plates, and a blue Infiniti.

The man was shot once in the left abdomen and his injuries are not life-threatening, deputies said. He was transported to Halifax Health Medical Center in Daytona Beach.

The investigation is still active.
