OSCEOLA COUNTY, Fla. — An Osceola County family said it believes the Tuesday night shooting that claimed the life of their loved one was a mistake.

The shooting happened around 9:24 p.m. in the area of Yellow Bay Drive in the Hammock Trail subdivision where officials were dispatched to a shooting, deputies said.

Neighbors said the victim was a kind man and hardworking.

There are around 12 bullet holes in the front of the house after the shooting.

Deputies said 57-year-old Darick Febus lived in the home for more than a decade.

Febus was home with his stepdaughter and her son Tuesday night when they heard a loud knock and then heard gunfire.

“There's no way this can be fixed. They got the wrong person,” said Febus’ stepdaughter, who did not want to be identified.

She said the shooters made a mistake and shot up the wrong house.

“That was his life goal, play basketball and go to church, come back. He never got in trouble with anyone,” she said.

Osceola County deputies spent 14 hours at the home as they investigated the deadly shooting.

The street was littered with bullet casings and the house and two cars were marked with bullet holes and a shattered window.

Febus family members said he worked five minutes away at the Lowe's warehouse and managed a car washing business out of his home.

One of his neighbors said he was helpful around the community.

Febus' stepdaughter said she wasn't able to get a clear look at the shooters, which is why she said she can't give much of a description to deputies.

Detectives are asking anyone with information to call Crimeline at 1-800-423-8477 or 407-348-2222. Information leading to a felony arrest could lead to a $5,000 reward.
