ORLANDO, Fla. — Authorities have identified the Orlando police officer who shot and killed a man during a call to an apartment complex early Friday morning.
The shooting happened at the Watauga Woods apartments on Watauga Avenue near South Conway Road just after 1 a.m.
Police said several people involved in a fight in the pool area of the apartment complex took off running when officers arrived.
As Officer Kelvin Vidro approached one of the suspects, Albert Davis, 23, a fight broke out, authorities said.
Police Chief John Mina said Vidro fired his weapon during the altercation and that other officers then performed CPR in an effort to save Davis.

"I can tell you what I saw at the scene is Taser over there, his baton over there, ball cap, wristwatch strewn about the scene. The officer was covered with dirt, so it was a very violent struggle. So based on the scene and radio transmissions, that's what we believe," said Mina.
Davis was taken to a hospital in critical condition and later died, Orlando Mina said. Vidro wasn't injured.
Resident Eileen Curras said she was fast asleep when she heard the shots fired outside her bedroom window.
“I said, ‘Eileen, don’t even look outside, don’t even look outside, because you don’t know who is outside.’ So I stayed in the house,” she said.
Residents were blocked from going in and out of the complex for several hours.
“I have lived here since 2007, and it has always been quiet,” she said.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating. Vidro was relieved of his duties, pending the investigation.
Vidro has been with the department since August 2014 and was assigned to midnight patrol on the east side of town, authorities said.
