Police said they were called at about 8 p.m. to the Bel-Air apartments on East Airport Boulevard near Sanford Avenue after a shooting was reported in the parking lot.

Investigators said they discovered Myeia Kudakwashe, 27, with a gunshot wound in her abdomen. She was taken to a hospital in serious condition.

Police said they then discovered Steven Martin, 29, with multiple gunshot wounds in his chest. He was taken to a hospital, where he died.

“It appears that Kudakwashe was at the location earlier, which was the customary location for Kudakwashe to exchange custody of her children with their father, who lived in the complex,” said Bianca Gillett, a police spokeswoman. “Kudakwashe appeared agitated when arriving at the apartment complex, and she forced her way into the apartment before having to be forcefully removed.”

Witnesses told police that Kudakwashe brandished a gun before leaving the complex.

“When Kudakwashe and Martin returned, they were shot on the second floor exterior walkway near the apartment,” Gillett said. “The details of what occurred when they returned are still under investigation.”
