Man breaks into sleeping Deltona woman's bedroom, deputies say

DELTONA, Fla. — A Deltona woman awakened early Saturday morning to find an intruder with a flashlight running out of her bedroom, according to Volusia County sheriff's investigators.

Investigators said the woman told them that she initially thought she was dreaming until she noticed things missing.

The woman told investigators that a purse, wallets, a cellphone and a Galaxy tablet were missing from her house.

Sheriff's deputies found one of the wallets, along with a crowbar, behind the woman's Algoma Street home.

Investigators said that through follow-up investigation, they obtained a search warrant for the Deltona home of Sean Whalen, 29.

According to investigators, Whalen confessed to the crime and led them to the stolen property.

Investigators said they discovered a number of other items, including GPS units, silver, jewelry and more cellphones.

Whalen confessed to another residential burglary and several vehicle burglaries in the area, investigators said.

He was booked in the Volusia County Branch Jail in Daytona Beach on a $60,000 bond.
