CENTRAL FLORIDA — Investigators are working to discover how many victims were affected by a man accused of rolling back odometers on used cars.
Investigators said it's happened at least four times and one victim told Channel 9 he was lured by an ad on Craigslist.
Doug Fraser said he no longer takes an engine that starts for granted. He said he bought a 2002 Honda Accord with 119,000 miles on it from Joshua Nash, who said he was selling it for his daughter, who was going to college.
Fraser said he put college on hold because he's flushed money down the drain for repairs on a car sold on a lie.
Channel 9 looked at the Carfax report and discovered the care had been wrecked twice and the mileage was last reported at 299,000 miles.
Nash went to jail last week, but bonded out.
Troopers said three other people paid more than their cars were worth based on what they though the mileage was.
"It's kind of like a slap in the face," Fraser said.
Fraser said he paid $3,500 for the car, which is worth $1,800 when it's running. He said he would have never bought it.
Nash filed a plea of not guilty in the case.
Carfax has a free tool that allows drivers to enter the VIN number of a car and find out if there are any mileage discrepancies.
