Weather Alert Day: Florida to see widespread freeze after major cold front moves in Friday night

5:30 p.m. update

Most of Central Florida is bracing for a widespread freeze that is forecast to blanket Florida late Saturday night through mid-morning Sunday.

Weather models show this could be the coldest temperatures since 2018, and possibly record breaking.

Channel 9 will be tracking the cold weather all weekend and give the latest updates on Eyewitness News.

4:45 a.m. update

Cold air will rush in Friday night, bringing Florida its biggest chill in years.

Friday’s forecast will be mostly cloudy, with a 20% chance of a shower.

Daytime highs will reach 66.

On Friday night, the major front will move in, dropping temperatures into the 30s. The low is 38 in Orlando.

Saturday will be cold and windy. The high is 49 degrees.

Meteorologist Brian Shields said wind chills will be a factor throughout the day and night.

Sunday will feature the coldest weather we’ve seen in years. It will be in the 20s and 30s across Central Florida — a widespread freeze.

We’ll have frost again on Monday morning. Then it will turn warmer next week.
