ORLANDO, Fla. — The Lynx bus service is working on upgrading its pay system by using mobile app technology.
Lynx wants to equip its buses with an app that would read a bar code on a rider’s phone.
“To replace the card with the phone would be more easy for people not to worry about, 'Oh where is my card?' said rider Clifford Beuboun.
According to documents from the Lynx website, the bus service wants to have the mobile app pay technology in place sometime in July 2017.
The app would not replace cash payment or tickets. It would just be another payment option.
Lynx will test the app in May.
Lynx has not selected a company to handle the project.
Some of the app requirements include, processing a customer fare in two seconds and accommodating customers who don't have credit cards.
“Well, I always try to have it outside my purse instead of having to dig inside because it holds up the line and people get aggravated,” said rider Elizabeth Hill.
Lynx has not released how much the app creation will cost. Lynx plans to pick the company in November.
