SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. — Two women were rescued Monday after they got lost in the woods in Seminole County, deputies said.

Deputies were called at 7:19 p.m. to Osprey Trail and State Road 419, in Longwood.

Rebecca Powell, 26, and Samantha Smith, 23, called 911 to say that they were lost and sent their GPS coordinates from their phone to deputies.

Smith told Channel 9's Jeff Levkulich that they left the main walking path by the boardwalk to get around some of the debris left behind by Hurricane Irma.

The women said they were lost about two and a half hours.

"The sun went down and at that point, we got lost, and it all looks the same," Smith said. "There was a moment of frustration for me, but Kat (Powell) kept her cool, and she was like, 'Hey listen, we need to call someone.'"

Deputies on foot and the sheriff helicopter helped in the search. They walked through six-inch water and mud and broke branches and limbs to create a pathway, deputies said.

Deputies made their way to the main trail, and the sheriff helicopter alerted deputies they were within 100 feet of the women.

The women were found exhausted and muddy from the trail.

"I've seen boars out there. I've even run across some gators. It was a little bit of a concern, but at the same time, I was more concerned about spiders or snakes," Smith said.

The women told deputies they were out enjoying nature and exploring when they realized they were lost and the sun was setting, investigators said.
