Looking for work? Volusia County is looking for lifeguards; here’s how to try out

VOLUSA COUNTY, Fla. — Volusia County’s Beach Safety Division is hiring lifeguards for the 2021 summer season.

Starting pay for lifeguards is $12.74 per hour.

Candidates must be over the age of 16 on or before June 1, complete mandatory 48-hour ocean rescue training, attend a 40-hour first responder class and complete a CPR course.

Those wishing to try out must also meet certain physical requirements.

Applicants must be able to swim 500 meters in less than 10 minutes, swim 50 yards in under 30 seconds, and run a half-mile in under 3 minutes, 15 seconds.

Swim tryouts will be held at two locations.

One will be at the Ormond Beach YMCA, 500 Sterthaus Drive, Ormond Beach on Feb. 27 and March 13, from 8 a.m. to noon.

Another will be at the Port Orange YMCA, 4701 City Center Parkway, Port Orange on March 6 and 20 from 8 a.m. to noon.
