FILL THIS OUT — Less than a quarter of Seminole County students have opted to return to traditional classrooms in the fall, as of the district’s registration deadline on Friday.
But the district said more than 27% of students have not filed a selection. Those students are set to be defaulted into face-to-face instruction, but the district said it plans to reach out to those parents to confirm that’s what they want.
The most popular selection as of Friday was the district’s online learning program, Seminole Connect.
Below is breakdown of the latest registration choices as of Friday’s deadline:
- No selection made: 18,536 (27.47%)
- Seminole Connect: 17,441 (25.84%)
- Face-to-Face: 15,797 (23.41%)
- Save My Seat! Virtual Classes: 8,687 (12.87%)
- Hybrid: 6,417 (9.51%)
- Transfer to Seminole County Virtual School: 609 (0.9%)
Seminole County Virtual School has been around for about a decade, but it usually has a couple hundred students, never the thousands that have now chosen to enroll in the fall.
“We will need a lot more teacher to support that area,” Michael Lawrence, communications officer for Seminole County Public Schools, said.
He said the district needs at least 500 teachers to volunteer to join the virtual team to meet the need.
