Leesburg High School student arrested on charges of making bomb threat

LEESBURG, Fla. — A 17-year-old boy was arrested at Leesburg High School after leaving a note in a classroom that stated he would be bringing bombs to blow the school up, said authorities.

Investigators said the note was found on a projector in a classroom by the teacher, who reported it to the resource deputy.

"A while ago, it was a gun, now this. Makes you scared to let your kids go to school," parent Paul Wood.

A member of the Lake County sheriff's bomb squad responded to the school as deputies at the scene began the investigation.

Deputies said they identified the person responsible for leaving the note as 17-year-old Jared Jones, who admitted to it.

Investigators said Jones told them that he was upset when he wrote the note and didn't intend for it to be found.

The note said Jones claimed to be a member of the terror group ISIS (Islamic State) and he wrote,"Imma blow this (expletive) school up."

He criticized the teachers and said that "Everyone's going to die."

He went on to write that he was going to put "a bomb in each building."

Deputies said they searched Jones, his belongings and the classroom, but they did not find evidence that he had a bomb or bomb-making materials.

"It was definitely very scary," said Wood.

Jones was placed under arrest and charged with threatening to place a destructive device, which is a second-degree felony.
