This comes after the U.S. Department of Justice reached a settlement with the district, after it found the district’s systemic and discriminatory practices were punishing students for behaviors the students couldn’t control.

According to the settlement, it is not an admission of liability or wrongdoing on the district’s part. It gives the district three years to implement new policies and procedures when dealing with children with disabilities.

As a result, a local attorney has filed a $50 million class-action lawsuit against the district.
