Troopers urge safe driving as fatal crashes increase

CASSELBERRY, Fla. — Casselberry police are investigating a hit-and-run that happened near State Road 436 and U.S. Highway 17-92.

Investigators said a good Samaritan reported that a person was found on the road Sunday morning.

Police identified the pedestrian as Bridget Garrett, 51.

This crash comes on the heels of multiple traffic-related deaths, including two wrong-way crashes.

Florida Highway Patrol is reminding drivers to take their time on the roads with increased holiday traffic, especially those visiting from out-of-town.

Troopers advise people not to drive tired and to take breaks if needed.

FHP said between Jan. 1 and Dec. 8, 641 people died in Central Florida crashes and about 16,000 total hit-and-run crashes happened in Central Florida this year.

Casselberry investigators said the department does not have any leads yet on the fatal hit-and-run crash.

Police said they hope someone comes forward with information.
