Large gators caught by trappers after Florida man attacked near pond

SANIBEL, Fla. — Trappers in Southwest Florida have captured two large gators after a man was attacked.

The attack happened Monday in Sanibel, not far from Fort Myers.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission said a 37-year-old man was bitten by a gator in a pond.

Officials said the man wasn’t seriously hurt.

Trappers were called out and captured a 9-foot gator in the water.

Neighbors said they have seen it many times before.

“They’ve never really bothered us,” said Sanibel resident Linda Clemente.

FWC said the second gator caught was about 7 feet long.
