Riding lawn mower incident leads to deadly shooting in Lake County, deputies say

LAKE COUNTY, Fla. — The Lake County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a shooting that happened Friday night in Altoona.

Deputies responded to the 23000 block of Raccoon Road around 9 p.m. on Friday in reference to a shooting.

According to deputies, the victim stated he was driving behind the suspect who was on a riding lawn mower.

The victim told deputies the suspect stopped the lawn mower, came to the driver’s side window, and began striking the victim in the face and tried to pull him out of the car.

The victim told deputies that he shot the suspect in self-defense.

Deputies said 52-year-old Charles Matthews was pronounced dead at the scene.

No arrests have been made at this time.

Detectives with the Lake County Sheriff’s Office continue their investigation into this shooting.
