ORLANDO, Fla. — Channel 9 is taking you through the decades-long story of the Groveland Four.

A white woman wrongly accused four Black men of raping her in 1949.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis pardoned them in 2019, and earlier this year, they were finally exonerated.

Groveland Four After their families worked for years to clear their names, the Florida Board of Executive Clemency voted to pardon the Groveland Four in January 2019.

Groveland Four Charles Greenlee and Walter Irvin were eventually paroled after serving lengthy prison sentences.

Groveland Four According to Lake County officials, the granite memorial will feature a bronze plaque imprinted with a written account of the ordeal, which was prepared with help from the families. The monument will be unveiled Friday.
