2 children killed, baby seriously hurt during fiery crash in Lake County, troopers say

LAKE COUNTY, Fla. — Troopers are investigating a deadly crash that happed Saturday afternoon in Lake County.

10:40 p.m. update:

Investigators said a 4-year-old and 2-year-old were killed and one of them was ejected from a Kia sedan that crashed into a pickup truck on SR-46.

Troopers said a witness told them the sedan driver was passing other traffic in a no-passing lane when he collided head-on with another driving going the other direction.

The 1-year-old in the sedan was flown to Arnold Palmer hospital with serious injuries, troopers said.

Troopers said it’s unclear if any of the children were restrained during the crash.

The pickup truck was overturned and caught fire due to the impact of the crash, according to a report.

Troopers said the driver in the pickup and four passengers were able to exit the truck.

Troopers said the crash remains under investigation, and charges are pending.

Florida State troopers and Lake County deputies responded to a deadly crash Saturday afternoon.

Troopers said a two-vehicle crash happened around 5:39 p.m. near State Road 46 and Wekiva River Road.

Two people were killed in the crash and three people were taken to a hospital for treatment, troopers said.

Troopers said one of the people hurt in the crash was flown to a hospital in a helicopter.

Deputies said the crash also sparked a fire.

SR-46 will be shut down for several hours as the crash is investigated.
