19-year-old shot in ‘targeted’ attack near Winn-Dixie in Tavares, police say

LAKE COUNTY, Fla. — Tavares police are looking for a gunman who shot a 19-year-old man in the back Sunday afternoon.

Officers said the shooting happened around 1:30 p.m. in the area of the Winn-Dixie located at St. Clair Abrams Avenue and East Burleigh Boulevard.

Investigators believe the man was shot in a “targeted event,” and an investigation is ongoing.

Officers described the shooters as an Hispanic man in a dark vehicle.

The victim was flown by helicopter to a hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, police said.
