KISSIMMEE, Fla. — The Kissimmee Police Department announced Thursday that they’re launching a “Safe Space” program for the LGBTQ community.

The program identifies locations that are safe and accessible to members of the local LGBTQ community who are victims of a crime or simply feel that they’re in danger.

The police department is partnering with The Center to provide the appropriate training for people at participating locations. Those locations will then be given decals to post, marking them as a safe location for LGBTQ community members.
If needed, people at the Safe Space location will be prepared to immediately contact police for assistance.

An LGBTQ Liaison Coordinator will be contacted if additional services are needed.
The coordinator will also keep a record of all businesses that enroll in the program and any time someone uses a Safe Space.
