Judge allowing sketches of naked children to be shown in child porn trial

SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. — A Seminole County judge will allow prosecutors to show sketches of naked children drawn by a suspect on trial for child porn.

Shawn Thomas, 30, was arrested last summer after authorities received a tip he was trying to rape and murder kids.

Deputies said they found the graphic drawings in Thomas' cell and prosecutors believe they will show the jury who Thomas really is.

After Thomas' arrest, deputies said he passed his time by sketching adults and children having sex.

"These drawings are so powerful; the defense has to be afraid that once the jury sees them that they are just going to convict on the basis of the drawings themselves," WFTV legal analyst Bill Sheaffer said.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement believes Thomas was planning to lure aspiring child stars to an abandoned house so he could kill their families, rape the kids, record it, kill the kids and then sell the DVD's.

That trial has not been scheduled yet.

Thomas is going to trial next week for child pornography agents found on his computers and prosecutors think the drawings will help their case.

Investigators said one family met up with Thomas, but left when they noticed a plastic sheet draped over the floor.

Jury selection for the case starts Monday.
