ORLANDO, Fla. — As coronavirus cases are climbing across the country, a new tool is showing people how risky it would be to attend a gathering.
It’s an interactive map that shows how likely someone will come into contact with someone else who has COVID-19.

The map shows the risk level, depending on how many people are at the gathering and what county the event is in.

Researchers said it’s a tool that hundreds of thousands of people are looking at across the country.
“This is going to be a different Thanksgiving than we’ve had in the past,” said Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer.
Experts said gatherings and get-togethers come with a risk. But how great is that risk?

Clio Andris and her team at Georgia Tech put together an event risk assessment planning tool, showing the likelihood of someone attending a get-together with COVID-19.
“I hope that this is used to reassess things, giving travel plans and reassess how big you wanted to have your gathering before,” Andris said.
The data shows the Central Florida counties where you have the highest risk of being in a group with someone who has COVID-19 are Osceola and Orange counties.
In a group of 10, the tool shows there is a 12% risk in Orange County and a 14% risk in Osceola County.
