I-4 eastbound in Maitland reopens after fatal early morning crash shut down road

MAITLAND, Fla. — Florida Highway Patrol is investigating a deadly crash that happened Saturday morning in Orange County.

12:00 p.m. Update:

All eastbound lanes of Interstate 4 have reopened following the deadly crash that shut down the highway for over 5 hours Saturday morning.

Troopers said that preliminary evidence revealed that a Honda Civic hit a Ford Focus that was parked on the side of the highway due to a flat tire.

The driver of the Civic, a 26-year-old Orlando man, was transported to the hospital with serious injuries.

The two occupants of the Focus were standing outside of the vehicle when the crash occurred.

One of the pedestrians, a 20-year-old Edgewater woman was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

The pedestrian, a 20-year-old Daytona Beach woman, was transported to the hospital where she was pronounced dead.

The crash happened around 5:51 a.m. on the eastbound lanes of Interstate 4 near the Maitland Boulevard exit.

Troopers said that a preliminary investigation revealed that the crash involved two vehicles.

Both involved parties were transported to the hospital with one being pronounced deceased, troopers said.

All I-4 eastbound lanes are blocked at this time, and traffic is being diverted into the Express Lanes and Exit 90 (Maitland Blvd).

This crash remains under investigation.
