Parts of Flagler County were hit hard by Hurricane Matthew, and suffered a lot of damage.
More than 50 percent of homes in the senior community of Surfside Estates in Beverly Beach were destroyed.
“I never seen anything like. It looked like a war zone,” said resident Joyce Noak.
An enormous pile of twisted metal is what Hurricane Matthew left in Joyce and Ed Noak's front yard.
“It was just like a banana. It peeled the rubber roof off. It all came forward,” said Joyce Noak.
Neighbors covered the roofs with tarps.
“It was…. I'm going to cry. It was really, really, really devastating. It's a feeling I never want to feel again,” said neighbor Holly Beattie.
Many homeowners in the community, such as Maryann Lawson and her husband, Ed, do not have insurance.
The residents said they are in desperate need of tarps, and the stores are sold out.
Residents of the senior community said they need manpower, people who can lay the tarps and help remove heavy debris.
“When I pulled up to the house, I thought, just keep right on driving,” resident Butch Shook said.
Shook and his younger brother took matters into their own hands.
Both in their 70s, they cleared Shook's collapsed front room.
“We're used to being tough. We grew up on a farm,” said Shook.
While the Red Cross arrived with supplies, neighbors reached out to each other, offering much-needed support.
“They're all OK. So that makes it all, all good,” said Beattie said.
Residents said no one was injured because everyone in the community evacuated.
