How one Central Florida district plans to keep students safe this upcoming school year

LAKE COUNTY, Fla. — Parents inside Minneola City Hall on Thursday night listened to safety officers and Lake County School District officials talk about plans to keep children safe.

School resource deputies laid out what they’ve been doing all summer to prepare.

Officials said the Lake County School Board greenlit purchasing a crisis alert system. Every employee will wear a lanyard that, if pushed three times, will alert all the officials that there’s a threat.

School resource deputies said they’ve been doing firearm training all summer and changing door locks that require a key.

Deputies said they wanted to install metal detectors, but it’s too expensive. In its place, they’re asking anyone who sees something to say something.
