ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — For the first time in five years, the Orange County Housing and Community Development Department is taking applications just to get on a waitlist for Section 8 housing.

In just a matter of days, 13,000 people have applied to grab one of the 1,000 spots.
“(It) demonstrates that there’s a lot of shortfall, and there’s a lot of work to do,” said Mitchell Glasser, a manger in Orange County Housing.
Orange County currently supports 1,300 families on Section 8.

The waitlist will hold over for about the next five years. You can apply online or in the office if you need assistance.
