Homicide suspect Markeith Loyd appears in court

ORLANDO, Fla. — Homicide suspect Markeith Loyd appeared in court Tuesday morning for a hearing on the status of his murder trial.

During Tuesday's hearing, which was attended by Dixon's relatives, Chief Judge Frederick Lauten questioned Roger Weeden, Loyd's attorney, about depositions.

Weeden said he would like to depose the first 16 witnesses before the end of the year.

Prosecutors told the judge that they expect to call firearms and medical experts to testify.

The defense said it would like to bring in its own medical expert and do its own scene reconstruction.

Loyd told Lauten he would like to take a polygraph exam. The judge said Loyd would have to discuss that with his attorney. The judge also asked Loyd if he is doing OK and he nodded yes.

"As a defense attorney, you would never let your client take a polygraph test unless you knew what the outcome was going to be, and that's almost impossible to know," WFTV legal analyst Bill Sheaffer said.

Loyd's trial for Dixon's killing is scheduled to begin on Sept. 11, 2018.

The trial date for Clayton's killing has not been set.
