Holiday travelers see ‘sticker shock’ while booking flights as prices jump 55% over last year

ORLANDO, Fla. — Travelers may be in for some sticker shock while booking a flight for the holidays.

Travel agents say it will cost you about 55% more than this same time last year because of a limited number of available seats.

The average domestic round-trip ticket is $274.

“This Thanksgiving will be a very expensive holiday to travel, especially for travelers who are booking late,” said Hayley Berg with Hopper.

Some travel experts say the holidays could be just as busy as the summer travel season when 55,000 flights were canceled because of staffing issues or bad weather.
