ORLANDO, Fla. — Gov. Ron DeSantis is being criticized after sending to Martha’s Vineyard migrants who lack the correct documentation.

Some leaders with Orlando’s Hispanic community are planning to gather Friday morning to share their frustrations.

They said migrants seeking political asylum deserve protection, not to be used as political pawns.
DeSantis is defending his actions after flying roughly 50 migrants to Massachusetts.

It’s an effort to turn the spotlight to immigration just two months before the midterm elections.
DeSantis’ opponent in the governor’s race, Charlie Crist, is responding to the migrant transport by calling it shameful.
It’s also triggering a strong response from President Joe Biden.

The chartered flights were paid for by the state of Florida using tax dollars.
