If you need a warm place to take shelter as freezing temperatures move into Central Florida, several counties are opening cold weather shelters in the coming days.

Orange County
In preparation for severe cold weather, Orange County Government is supporting the Homeless Services Network (HSN) in assisting in notifying residents, homeless individuals and people without stable housing that cold-weather warming centers will be available beginning Friday at 3 p.m. through Monday morning.
The two Orange County overflow sites - located at Goldenrod Recreation Center/Goldenrod Park, 4863 N. Goldenrod Road, Winter Park, and Barnett Park, 4801 W. Colonial Drive - will only be utilized if capacity is reached at HSN’s main warming sites.

Other shelters operating in Orange County:
- The Salvation Army Orlando, 416 W. Colonial Drive, Orlando
- Orlando Union Rescue Mission, 3300 W. Colonial Drive, Orlando
- Covenant House (Youth 18-21 ONLY), 5931 E. Colonial Drive, Orlando
Regional LYNX buses will provide free rides for individuals seeking transportation to the above-listed HSN shelters. Riders must let the LYNX driver know that they need to go to a shelter. The LYNX driver will transport those in need to the nearest HSN shelter location.

Osceola County
The Osceola County Office of Emergency Management is opening up a cold weather shelter as temperatures are expected to drop into the 30s this weekend.
• First United Methodist Church in St. Cloud will open its doors Friday at 6 p.m. to provide shelter from the cold for homeless people. It will open at 8:30 p.m. on Christmas Eve.
The Church is located at 1000 Ohio Ave. in St. Cloud.
Those who need transportation to the shelter can get a ride on a LYNX bus at no cost by simply telling the driver they’re going to the shelter.

Lake County
Lake County plans to activate shelters Friday through Monday for those vulnerable to cold weather.
The county will open two cold-weather shelter locations:
• Trinity Assembly of God, 200 Urick Street, Fruitland Park, which is open 24 hours a day.
• LifePointe Church, 3551 E. Orange Avenue, Eustis, which is open daily from 5 p.m. to 8 a.m.
An additional Salvation Army warming shelter located at 2605 South Street, Leesburg, will be open for residents during the day. The warming shelter will operate from 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday through Monday.
LakeXpress, Lake County’s fixed route transportation service, will provide free transportation to riders who need assistance traveling to a cold weather shelter.

Flagler County
The Sheltering Tree will open a cold-weather shelter Friday, Saturday, Sunday nights at the Church on the Rock. The shelter is not only for homeless people, but for anyone who is without heat. Flagler County officials urge residents to take advantage of this option if the alternative is using a heating method that could pose a fire hazard, even if it means leaving home for the holiday.
• Church on the Rock is located at 2200 N. State Street. The cold-weather shelter will open at 5:30 p.m. each evening and will close at 8 a.m. the following day.
Transportation is available for those who need it through Flagler County.
• The Sheltering Tree, 386-437-3258, is under the umbrella of the Flagler County Family Assistance Center and is a nondenominational civic organization.

Brevard County
Cold weather shelters will open Friday evening in north, central, and south Brevard County.
Brevard County cold weather shelters will be open in the following locations:
• LifePointe Ministries, Inc. in Titusville at 4220 South Hopkins Ave. This shelter will open Friday at 4 p.m. and will be serving dinner and breakfast.
• Sharing Center of Central Brevard in Cocoa at 113 Aurora St. This shelter will open Friday at 6 p.m. and will be serving dinner and breakfast.
• HELPS Community Initiatives – HCI in Melbourne at 815 East Fee Ave. This shelter will open Friday at 6 p.m. and will be serving dinner and breakfast.
Attendees must register at Daily Bread, Inc. between 10 AM and 2 PM the day shelter is needed.
Brevard County leaders said further operations will be assessed as needed and announced daily.
