Here’s when the I-4 express lanes could open

ORLANDO, Fla. — The Florida Department of Transportation said the Interstate 4 express lanes could open at the end of the month.

FDOT leaders said they have been making great progress.

“If everything stays on schedule, and we don’t have any blips along the way, we’re looking to be opened by the end of February,” an official said.

Emergency responders have been training on the new lanes and mock exercises have been going well.

They expect to set an opening date in the next few weeks.

The new express lanes will require electronic toll payments, like E-PASS or SunPass.

Here’s what you need to know about using the express lanes.

  • A transponder is required to access the express lanes.
  • There is no cash or pay-by-plate option.
  • Toll prices will change based on volume and demand.

If you don’t have a transponder and use the express lanes, you’ll be charged a $25 violation plus the cost of tolls.
