Gas prices in Florida have surged over the last week, up by an average of 15 cents a gallon. The average price right now is $3.71 a gallon. This time last week, it was $3.56.
The chaos at the pump was the aftermath of historic flooding. AAA said floodwaters prevented fuel trucks from accessing the gasoline terminals at Port Everglades, which is a hub for filling stations in Miami, Fort Lauderdale and Palm Beach.

To offset the shortage, gasoline was brought in from other states and driven down from hubs in Tampa, Orlando, Port Canaveral and Jacksonville.
All gas terminals at Port Everglades were reopened by Friday evening. Things have stabilized, but surprise has set in for some motorists.
