Earlier this month, Seminole County’s Community Services department celebrated the start of construction on the county’s first affordable housing subdivision being built with America Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds.

Alongside development partner Habitat for Humanity Seminole-Apopka, a groundbreaking ceremony was held Aug. 2 at 1209 W. 20th St. in Sanford. That’s where Habitat for Humanity will build a six-home subdivision with an associated road and infrastructure.
This matters, as affordable housing is viewed by many business leaders and government officials as a potential threat to the Orlando region’s otherwise robust growth and economic momentum.
