Here’s how to apply for emergency rental assistance in Orange, Seminole counties

SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. — People in Orange and Seminole counties who have been struggling to make payments due to the pandemic have a chance to get some relief.

Both counties will open their emergency rental assistance programs at 10 a.m. Monday.

Here’s how residents can apply for assistance:

Orange County residents

Residents in Orange County must show proof they are hurting financially and be at least one month past due on rent. The tenant and landlord must agree to participate in the program and meet the eligibility requirements.

The program will distribute $33.4 million of federal funds to assist eligible Orange County residents.

The goal is to help 4,000 to 10,000 households. The amount they receive depends on their need.

Orlando residents are not eligible for the Orange County program because the city received its own financial aid.

Orange County will keep the program open for weeks.

Seminole County residents

Residents in Seminole County can apply for rental assistance if they have difficulty making timely payments of rent and utilities due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The county received $14.2 million from the U.S. Department of Treasury to provide rental assistance to eligible households negatively impacted due to COVID-19.

If approved, residents can receive financial assistance of up to 12 months of unpaid past due rent and utilities.

Seminole County will close the application process once 3,000 residents apply.
