VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. — Volusia County Beach Safety is urging residents and visitors to use caution this weekend as potentially hazardous beach conditions are expected along the coast.
Officials said beachgoers should be aware of:
- Rip currents
- High surf
- Strong wind gusts
- Thunderstorms
High tide is expected at 8:06 a.m. Saturday and 8:50 a.m. Sunday.
Beach Safety officials recommend swimming only in front of staffed lifeguard towers and checking the Volusia Beaches app for current beach conditions before heading out.
The agency also reminded beachgoers what to do if they find a washed-up sea turtle.
Officials say people should move the turtle out of immediate danger if necessary, provide shade, and contact Beach Safety immediately. The animal should be kept in a quiet, dry area and not returned to the water.
Anyone who finds a sea turtle is asked to contact Volusia County Beach Safety at 386-239-6414 or the New Smyrna Beach office at 386-424-2345.
