DeSantis said that $100 million will go toward funding higher education and workforce education programs for nursing. He said the program will financially reward colleges and universities for their nursing education programs, based on student success.

Another $25 million will go toward “linking industry to nursing education” (LINE) funds. DeSantis said the funds will be available for schools to recruit faculty for their nursing programs. The funds will be matched dollar-to-dollar by health care partners in their community.

At Seminole State College, which graduates 300 nurses a year through its programs, President Georgia Lorenz said the funding is needed to help bring in even more potential nurses to the program, but matching funds from health care providers is key.

“And we will have the opportunity to hire additional faculty and get additional equipment that then expands our physical capacity to be able to serve more students,” Lorenz said.
