Daytona Beach mayor spotlights city leaders’ efforts to improve public safety

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — The mayor of Daytona Beach says there are plans in place to stop a wave of recent gun violence.

Mayor Derrick Henry held a news conference to talk about what’s being done to improve safety along the Seabreeze Boulevard corridor of the city on Tuesday.

The city is zeroing in on Seabreeze Boulevard.

The mayor says police have been called out to the are more than 14,000 times in the last two years.

As of July 13, Daytona Beach officials said there’d been dozens of non-fatal shootings and 10 fatal shootings in the community since January.

Thee mayor wants owners to agree to add cameras to their establishments to save the city some time. He also mentioned plans to get more officers patroling problem areas.
