Gov. DeSantis visits Sanford, aims to protect law officers from dangers of fentanyl exposure

SANFORD, Fla. — Gov. Ron DeSantis made a stop in Central Florida Monday morning.

The governor held a news conference in Sanford shortly after 10 a.m.

DeSantis was joined by Florida’s surgeon general and the Department of Children and Families secretary.

During his visit, the governor signed legislation that will increase penalties on individuals who expose law enforcement officers to fentanyl.

DeSantis said he also wanted to bring awareness to life-saving measures for someone experiencing an opioid overdose, and announced an expansion of the Coordinated Opioid Response (CORE) network.

The program will expand from a dozen Florida counties to 29.

The event was held at Seminole County Sheriff’s Office Professional Development Center.

Sheriff Dennis Lemma was also present.
