Hagerty High School athletic director accused of shoving student

SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. — A Seminole County school administrator is under investigation, accused of student mistreatment.

Hagerty High School’s athletic director is accused of shoving at least one student.

The alleged incident happened during a celebration following a big basketball win for the school.

The school won the regional championship in overtime. A student who was there told Channel 9 they were warned against going onto the court, but they did it anyway over the thrill of the victory.

“We rushed the court. We weren’t supposed to, but we did it anyway. Why not? We're going to the final four,” said Ru Mucherera, a senior at the school.

But one student is now accusing Jay Getty of shoving him while trying to get the crowd off the court.

“I didn’t see him push anyone or throw anyone,” Mucherera said.

The district said the principal is investigating.

Getty is still on the job.

Some worry it would be a bad time for him not to be, with a chance at the state championship, but the district said the athletic director had no direct contract with the accuser.

“I love Coach Getty. I have known him for a long time. He’s one of our track coaches. I’ve never had a problem with him,” Mucherera.

Getty did not want to comment on the investigation.
