VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. — Katharine, a great white shark that measures 14 feet 2 inches long was pinged near the Volusia County coast on Wednesday.
The female shark wears a satellite transmitter that tracks her every move.
Chris Fischer, founder of the shark-tracking group OCEARCH, said Katharine's movements over the past two years demonstrate a transition from an immature shark to a mature shark. Scientists believe she might be pregnant.
Katharine was captured by researchers off Cape Cod, Massachusetts, in August 2013.
Satellite data shows Katharine has traveled nearly 29,000 miles since being tagged.
