ORLANDO, Fla. — 1 p.m. update: The tornado warning for southern Volusia County has expired.

12:25 p.m. update: A tornado warning has been issued for southern Volusia County.
The warning includes New Smyrna Beach, Edgewater and Ponce Inlet. It will be in effect until 1 p.m.
Meteorologist Rusty McCranie is tracking the storms live on Channel 9 Eyewitness News.

11:30 a.m. update: The metro area is covered up in rain.
There are a few lightning strikes in the area.
Meteorologist Rusty McCranie said once this line passes, there will be a break in the action for a time, with more rain and storms in the next few hours.

Grab an umbrella. Showers and storms will pick up throughout the morning and into this afternoon.
Meteorologist Brian Shields said the best chance of rain and storms is from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
An inch of rain is possible.
There is a slight risk of a severe storm and a brief tornado.
The rain will depart mid-to-late this afternoon.
Cooler and nice weather is behind the front.

We’ll have daytime highs in the 70s on Friday and through the weekend, with lots of sun.
We will even have some chilly nights. On Saturday night, temperatures will be in the 40s and 50s.
