The U.S. Census Bureau says it’s about to become one of the largest gig employers in the nation.
If you’re looking for a new side hustle, the Census Bureau is hiring more than 500,000 temporary and part-time workers to help conduct the 2020 Census, which begins with mailings to residents in March, according to a news release.
The release said that hiring is underway for a variety of jobs, including census takers who visit homes and office workers who check home addresses. Pay ranges from $13 to $30 an hour, depending on where you live.
The 2020 census results will help determine each state’s representation in Congress and how funds are allocated for schools, hospitals, roads and more.
“These jobs can be a great second job, and we’re pitching them to students, bus drivers, teachers and others,” said Jeff Behler, regional director of the Census Bureau’s New York Regional Office. “You can work your 40-hour-per-week job and work for us on the weekends and be successful.”
