Gov. DeSantis aims to ban ESG investing in Florida

NAPLES, Fla. — Gov. Ron DeSantis is proposing bans and protections against Environmental, Social and Governance investing, or ESG.

DeSantis blames ESG investing for cutting off the credit for the Geo Group, that’s a Florida-based private prison company.

They were discredited following a social justice campaign against immigration detention in 2019.

One of the proposals includes protections against discrimination by banks for political, social, or religious beliefs.

Another is a ban against local and county governments from depositing funds into banks that allow ESG investing.

These will be proposed to the state legislature in March.
