LAKE NONA, Fla. — In the past two months, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office says it has investigated 30 car burglaries and arrested 23 suspects in Lake Nona.

The problem has gotten so dire that resident Keeshon Felder has slept in his vehicle to try and keep it from being burglarized.

Also, he hoped he might catch the person or persons who have broken into his vehicle four times before.

Resident Nick Congelossi’s car was broken into and just minutes later the burglars had already used his credit card.

“They had swiped my card at Target at 9:45 in the morning,” he said. “I was in my car just a few minutes later. These people were just here.”

The Orange County Sheriff’s Office has assigned a special enforcement squad to quell the rash of burglaries in Lake Nona and said break-ins had decreased dramatically since its formation.

Felder, though, wasn’t ready to believe the Lake Nona burglaries are over.

“It’s certainly not trickling down to the point where our property and valuables are safe,” he said.
