Girls Scouts hope digital cookie sales will help them weather COVID-19 impact

ORLANDO, Fla. — The COVID-19 pandemic has impacted so many aspects of our lives, even Girl Scout Cookies.

Everyone has a favorite Girl Scout cookie. But this year, not everyone ended up getting a box.

Despite extending the deadline to purchase Girl Scout Cookies and pivoting to more online purchase options, the challenges brought on by the pandemic have left nearly $100,000 worth of cookies in a local warehouse.

Even with contactless delivery, the organization saw that it was not able to sell as many cookies as it normally would.

The Girl Scouts Citrus Council includes six counties in Central Florida, with more than 20,000 members that benefit from the money that comes in from sales of the little boxes of sweets.

A lot of the money raised from the cookie sales goes towards experiences for the girls.
