“We had just taken all the sandbags down and then had to put them all back up,” Johnson said.

The mother and daughter said, this time, they got lucky as Nicole left behind damage that wasn’t nearly as bad as what Ian did.

“We were thinking, worst-case scenario, if we got dumped on with a lot of rain again that we were just going to get flooded,” Johnson said. “We got lucky, but some of the other neighbors didn’t fare as well as we did.”

Seminole County officials say the Federal Emergency Management Agency has already been to the area in response to Hurricane Ian and approval has been given for individuals to get certain types of assistance.

However, when it comes to Nicole, they’re still compiling numbers and data to make a determination on the amount of damage in the county.

Once the full extent of the damage is calculated, the county and state will determine what steps to take next.
