While alligators, well-adapted to Florida’s occasional dips in temperature, are perfectly content, other animals require a little extra TLC.
Park staff are diligently ensuring all the animals are comfortable. Heat lamps are warming enclosures, heating pads are keeping sensitive species cozy, and some have even been relocated indoors for the duration of the cold spell.
“Well, definitely, you know, when we have weather like this here in Florida, you know, your personal pets, you definitely want to take an account and make sure that, you know, if they need to be inside, you’re bringing them inside,” says Brandon Fisher, Director of Media Relations and Gator Expert at Gatorland.

This serves as a good reminder for pet owners as well. If you have reptiles, amphibians, or even some birds, ensure they have a warm and safe place to stay during this cold weather.
With temperatures in the 50s and below it is warmer for the gators to stay in the water.
Amidst the chilly weather, a new arrival at Gatorland is thriving: a trio of rescued foxes. These playful creatures, rescued from a fur farm in Minnesota, are enjoying their new home at Gatorland.

“And the first time they’d ever set foot on grass in their entire life was here when we built that exhibit for them,” says Fisher.
The foxes are a testament to Gatorland’s commitment to conservation. Beyond alligators, the park is home to a diverse range of animals, from birds and snakes to lizards and even capybaras.
So, whether you’re braving the cold or seeking refuge indoors, remember that even our wildlife needs a little extra care during this chilly spell. And if you’re looking for a fun and educational outing, be sure to visit Gatorland and experience the wonders of Florida’s diverse ecosystem.
