‘Gas prices are ridiculous’: High gas prices drive more people to public transportation

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — High gas prices are driving more people to ride public transportation.

SunRail and Lynx are seeing an increase in passengers.

In fact, SunRail said it experienced a 23% jump in February ridership.

That’s up from 40% from the same time last year.

Hopping on the bus is something more commuters are doing.

Lynx said it’s also starting to see a slow uptick.

The latest numbers from February show more than 1.2 million people used Lynx services — a nearly 22% increase from the same time frame in 2021.

Khy Watson said it’s a way to save money. “I ride the bus to and from work, so it’s pretty much every day. Gas prices are ridiculous.”
